JOE

JoeJoe is a handsome boy with sparkling blue eyes and a sunny disposition.  Good natured and full of vitality, he makes friends easily, and he is well liked by both children and adults. Joe loves to be physically active, playing sports and romping with his foster family's dog.  Recently, he has developed an interest in horses, and he says he would like to own one someday.  Joe would fit in well with a physically active family.

Joe’s ability to excel at sports, interact and play with mainstream teammates, and understand the complexities of various games indicate a good level of intelligence, as does his ability to fit in with peers and carry on meaningful conversations with adults.

Joe is a resilient child who is doing an outstanding job of overcoming the rocky start he's had in life.  Joe was placed separately from his siblings when they entered foster care because of the difference in their ages and needs.  Joe's five-year-old brother and six-year-old sister are already in their adoptive placement.  Relatives are adopting his eight-year-old cousin.  The children have remained in contact, and they continue to have a close relationship.  Ongoing contact with his siblings and cousin will be important for Joe after he finds an adoptive family.

BUSINESS THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

BiMart

OUR CARDS ARE BACK!

Greeting card

Thanks to the dedication of Marsha, one of our many volunteers, our greeting cards are back on sell.  You can purchase them through the web site or at our office at the 5th Street Public Market.  If you would like to feature a basket of cards in your store or business to sell to your customers please contact Marsha at 895-2495 or email wehastings@centurytel.net.

BUSINESS ADVOCATE PROGRAM

Gateway Mall

This is a whole new way of engaging the local business community and involve them personally in the recruitment of Adoptive Families.  Through this program we invite businesses to feature a child in their place of business.  They can do this with a single portrait on an easel or a more elaborate window display.  We are happy to do all the set up and bring all the materials needed.

We have been very encouraged to already have the support of the Valley River Center, in the form of a window display, and the Gateway Mall in a kiosk.

Any business can participate, they don't have to have a high traffic area, it only takes one family to change one life.

The Heart Gallery Mentor program is growing by the day.

We are still looking for volunteers to mentor or help with the program. We have been receiving case worker referrals and currently have 4 youth matched.

Mentor Feature Story:

We received a referral from a case worker for a youth that was 18 and close to graduating high school but would need to complete a session of summer school to achieve his diploma. This youth was having a hard time being motivated to make goals or plans. He had no idea where to start. This young man described by his case worker as needing someone to get him motivated and interested in his future.  We matched him with a mentor that had very similar likes. They were able to connect right away. In a matter of 2 weeks we started receiving e-mails from his caseworker about how energized and excited he was. She thanked our program. He is highly motivated and taking his own initiative to complete goals.

He has been in our program for about 2 months now and we are delighted in his progress. He has gained the confidence to take on his goals and accomplish them. His mentor and care team have worked great together to give him the encouragement and information that he needs to accomplish his goals.  He has completed his high school diploma, applied for several grants and scholarships and has taken his placement test for college and plans to attend full-time in the fall. He has plans to go into the field of science with a focus on Chemistry. Wow!  Thanks Wayne for all your work and dedication to him and our program. This is a youth that always had a drive to succeed but now has a desire and dedication to do it and accomplish his goals.

We are very proud of this youth's accomplishments and look forward to watching him become a successful adult.

His current goals included: finding a part time job where he can obtain valuable skills, to learn how to drive and get his license and to attend classes in the fall.

Sponsor the Heart Gallery Mentor Program today and help give a youth in foster care a great foundation for a successful adult.
